Winter Recreation & Events Crew

Job Overview:  
Winter Recreation and Events Crew employees are responsible for assisting with the implementation, maintenance, service, and infrastructure of the Dillon winter recreation amenities and Dillon winter events. This includes the recreation amenities on Dillon Reservoir, including the Dillon Lake Loops and ice rink, and also winter events in the Town of Dillon. 

Hours: This is a winter seasonal, part-time position with hours averaging 20 hours per week, beginning early/mid-December 2024 through early April 2025. The ideal candidate would be able to work morning shifts for three- to four-hours per day, and four to five days per week. Some daytime and evening event work will also be available.

REPORTS TO:  Ice Operations Supervisor

Job Responsibilities:
• Maintains ice safety standards related to Dillon winter recreation operational plan on Dillon Reservoir including setting and grooming of Lake Loops; snow removal and maintenance of ice rink and other recreation features on ice surface and surrounding areas.
• Accurately executes opening and closing procedures, including daily safety checks.
• Monitors ice rink and Lake Loops to enforce rules and safety guidelines.
• Acts as a town ambassador by answering questions and providing information to residents and guests in a professional and courteous manner, in person and via phone and email.
• Performs grounds maintenance and assists Public Works department with trash and recycling pickup and disposal.
• Operates marina and town equipment, including but not limited to trucks, trailers, utility vehicles, tractors, snowmobile, snowblower, grooming equipment, ice resurfacing machine, front-end loader, backhoe, skid steer and other related heavy equipment. May handle basic maintenance of equipment.
• Assists with special events and recreation programming, such as winter markets, the Lighting of Dillon, dog sled races, and town recreation events.
• Works closely with events and recreation, marina, public works and town administrative staff, plus third-party event producers.
• Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment.
• Adheres to and enforces Town of Dillon policies, standards, and regulations, including but not limited to proper attire, safety procedures, and overall professionalism. 
• Communicates in a professional, courteous, and timely manner both verbally and written when dealing with Town of Dillon employees, citizens, guests, customers, and vendors.
• Assists and communicates with emergency services, as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned by the Ice Operations Supervisor and Events & Recreation Director. 

Work Environment/Physical Activities:
• Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions. 
• High Risk – Possible contact with various chemicals. Exposure to sun, heat, cold, dust, precipitation, fuel, oil, grease and other conditions and chemicals commonly found in a marine environment. 
• Must be capable of operating a variety of equipment, hand, and power tools. Must be capable of safely maneuvering all vehicles, vessels, and equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions.  The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet, icy, snow-covered and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate in the office and outdoors and may be loud in the service bays. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate a computer, various pieces of office equipment, tools, and heavy equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Equipment Used: Motorized vehicles and equipment, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, mobile radio, phone, personal computer, calculator, phone, and copy/fax machine, timekeeping software, point of sale system

Qualifications:

• Self-motivated, innovative team player. Ability to work autonomously.
• Exceptional interpersonal communication skills.
• Must be at least 16 years of age. 
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
• CPR/AED and First Aid Certification is preferred. 
• Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time.
• Ability to work outside in all types of winter-weather conditions.
• Must be detail orientated, have creative problem-solving skills, and mechanical aptitude.  
• Ability to speak and understand the English language proficiently.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with public and coworkers, and the ability to establish effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, and other departments and agencies.
