Community Input- Town Park Master Plan

Town Park Master Plan & Dillon Alpine Garden/Ice Castles Concept

  • Date: 01/30/2020 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM
  • Location: Town Hall
275 Lake Dillon Drive, PO Box 8
    Dillon, Colorado 80435
  • Introduction: The Town of Dillon is seeking community input on the Town Park Master Plan and a mutli-year agreement with Dillon Ice Castles.

The Town of Dillon is seeking community input on the Town Park Master Plan and a mutli-year agreement with Dillon Ice Castles. The highly conceptual, proposal (link below) contemplates utilizing approximately 2.5 acres of the 8.44 acre park** for Ice Castles and Snow Caves attractions. The recreation path, playing field and, playground/playground equipment would remain open for free, public use. Additionally, an ice skating rink and skating path are contemplated in the proposal.

Town of DIllon is seeking public input on the proposal and other ammenities that the public may want to priorituize as a winter use adjacent to the Ice Castles attraction.

The Ice Castle build begins the third week of October. Operations are weather dependandt but typically run for 11 weeks from mid-Decemeber to early March. Tear down and melting occur March through mid-May or earlier depending on weather.

The proposal includes "the creation, in the northern portion of Dillon Town Park, an “Alpine Park,”  which will be series of wildflower gardens along with trails and picnic areas and grass.  Ice Castles proposes creating this space to be beautiful, dual use, and of greater public benefit than the current use. This will allow the Town to keep a pristine, multi-use field that is accessible to the public in early spring and turn the now under-used portion of the park into a vibrant and beautiful summer sanctuary."

Ice Castles has proposed investing in modifying the park design (with Town oversight) drainage, power, landscaping, construction of a new pavillion, amongst other costs associated with a partnership*.
*Town of Dillon and Ice Castles LLC have not entered into negotiations at this time.
** A correction was made to the Ice Castle/Snow Cave total acerage proposal and total Town Park acerage on 1/22/2020.
