Recall Information

What is happening now.

On November 12, 2024, the Town clerk received recall petitions for Council Members Dana Christiansen, Renee Imamura, and John Woods. The proponents of the recall effort are Barbara Richard, Laura Johnson, Linda Oliver, Mary Ellen Gilliland and Shannon Fausel.

According to State law, C.R.S. 31-4-502(1)(d), the signature requirement for the petitions is a number derived by taking 25% of the total number of votes cast for all candidates in the election in which the person who is the object of the recall was elected, divided by the number of Council seats that were filled in that election.  Because the incumbents were elected in an election with very low voter turnout, the number of signatures required on a recall petition is also proportionally small. In the present case, the recall petition must contain 17 valid signatures.

Number of signatures required for a recall petition are available here.

What happens next.

The clerk will review the petitions to determine if an adequate number of valid signatures are affixed. The clerk will announce her determination, and if anyone wishes to protest her determination, the Town will conduct a protest process. If no protest is filed, or if the petitions are determined to be sufficient in a protest, the Town Council then is obliged to set a special recall election not less than 30 days nor more than 90 days after the clerk submits the sufficient petitions to the Council. Should the persons sought to be recalled resign, this terminates all recall proceedings.

Please refer to Recall Petition Guidelines for more information.
